Founder Shawn Stüssy was a surfer in Laguna Beach in the late '80s when he began producing t-shirts and shorts to sell along with his surfboards. His iconic graffiti-style signature began to spread throughout the California surf scene and, before long, the cult surf and skate brand set up showrooms in New York and California and sold in select stores, becoming the famous streetwear brand. that we know and love. Stüssy grew organically out of the late '80s and early '90s movements in the California surf scene, and revolutionized the concept of casual clothing. Drawing inspiration from his travels and elements of underground subculture, tastemakers, DJs, hip-hop and artists, he ensures that Stüssy remains relevant. Selling only in select stores and in limited quantities, the original streetwear brand remains the coolest.
